Thanks

… to all the nice people who have left comments or written emails extending condolences on our loss of Sparky.  It does help, and both Kathy and I deeply appreciate your kindness.

We have known many cats over the years, and several of them have been very dear to us.  Our relationship with Sparky, however, was different.  His absence now is far more like the absence of a person, another mind, someone to talk to, someone to experience life with.  The fact that he is no longer here leaves a palpable void, as if a long-resident relative had moved away.  The house seems unnaturally still without him.

The first few days after he died, I was afraid that I would forget what made Sparky so special, and I replayed his daily routine and habits in my mind, trying to seal the details in my memory against the erosion of time. That’s actually one of the reasons I wrote my tribute to him. Now I don’t think I need to fear forgetting Sparky. Sparky will always be with us.
